Casey Anthony Verdict, Beth Bramble, LCSW

Casey Anthony was found not guilty today of First Degree Murder, Aggravated Child Abuse and Aggravated Manslaughter of a Child. She was found guilty on Counts Four Through Seven, Giving False Information to a Law Enforcement Officer in Reference to a Missing Person. She will likely get time served.

Many are left wondering what happened here. Is Casey Anthony an innocent victim or a masterful manipulator? Social media, news media and people around the world are speculating about whether justice was served today or if Casey Anthony is a psychopath who pulled her family, her defense team, the jury and onlookers into a complex web of lies.

Below is a chilling account of psychopathy demonstrating the ways they will prey ruthlessly on others using charm, manipulation and deceit in order to get what they want.

"He will choose you and disarm you with his words, and control you with his presence. He will delight you with his wit and plans. He will show you a good time, but you will always get the bill. He will smile and deceive you, and he will scare you with his eyes. And when he is through with you, and he will be through with you, he will desert you and take your innocence and your pride. You will be left much sadder but not a lot wiser, and for a long time you will wonder what happened and what you did wrong. And if another of his kind comes knocking at your door, will you open it?" -From an essay signed, "a psychopath in prison" Hare, Dr. Robert D. 1993

The psychopathic individual will indeed continue to "knock on doors" and repeat their behaviors because they live by their own rules. Listed below are psychopathic traits as defined in Dr. Robert Hare's Psychopathy checklist, revised.

Factor 1: Personality "Aggressive narcissism"

Glibness/superficial charm
Grandiose sense of self-worth
Pathological lying
Cunning/manipulative
Lack of remorse or guilt
Shallow affect (genuine emotion is short-lived and egocentric)
Callousness; lack of empathy
Failure to accept responsibility for own actions

Factor 2: Case history "Socially deviant lifestyle".

Need for stimulation/proneness to boredom
Parasitic lifestyle
Poor behavioral control
Lack of realistic long-term goals
Impulsivity
Irresponsibility
Juvenile delinquency
Early behavior problems
Revocation of conditional release

Traits that are not correlated with either factor

Promiscuous sexual behavior
Many short-term marital relationships
Criminal versatility
Acquired behavioural sociopathy/sociological conditioning (Item 21: a newly identified trait i.e. a person relying on sociological strategies and tricks to deceive)

The Casey Anthony trial has been called "the trial of the century." People are very divided about the outcome. The fact remains that we still do not know how Caylee Anthony died and why she was dumped in the woods alongside a pile of trash. It is unthinkable.

Pundits are trying to make sense out a case that we could not seem to take our eyes off of at this very moment, as I write. Every conceivable expert is weighing in with their thoughts and opinions. Was there reasonable doubt? Who was lying? Did the prosecution overreach putting the death penalty on the table? Was there abuse? Is that relavent? What does this verdict mean about scientific forensic evidence? Is our criminal justice system broken? Was there collusion? Did the media rush to judgement? Why did Casey wait 31 days to report Caylee missing, and if it was an accident why didn't anyone call 911. Did the prosecution connect the dots regarding motive?

Are we living in a world where we believe that life is like a TV show and that crime labs can get DNA off of duct tape after six months in a swamp? I have worked many crime scenes, I can promise you, it is not like TV.

It goes without saying, there are too many facts and details in this case for me to address them all here. I don't know what happened. I haven't interviewed anyone in the Anthony family. I did not sit in the court room, but I did watch and I pose this question to you once again. Is Casey Anthony an innocent victim or a masterful manipulator? You decide.

So your saying Casey will possibly do this again as she is already talking about having children again. You don't think she is going to kiss the ground & be vigilant!? You don't think she may have used chloraphorm to put her to sleep a lot of times & possibly overdid it and panicked that night. Or you think she is a murderer which I think. But that she has it in her to snuff another kid out! again!!?? Mike D.
